The Judge and the Dioxin Affair

Environment/Nature, France 2009

In Albertville (France) a young investigative judge is in charge of a delicate case of industrial pollution: a defective waste incinerator seems to be responsible for the increase of cancer cases in the nearby community. The incinerator was shut down, the neighbors opened a court case… Following the procedure step by step, the film explores the investigative judge's work, her responsibilities, her certainties and weaknesses. Update: in April 2024, the judge featured in the documentary, Hélène Gerhards, was indicted and remanded in custody in an investigation into her suspicious links with a member of the Corsican organised crime gang.
